fruit seychelles travel - Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Seychelles to California and Hawai’i

Seychellois cuisine is based around the life-filled sea that surrounds our country, as well as the many different types of cuisines brought by residents and visitors over the centuries. Spicy curries and stews based on octopus and coconut are popular. Broiled fish, especially Red Snapper, is a much-favored local delicacy as are various fish curries. Adventurous eaters may want to try Flying Fox curry, made from the only native mammal in the Seychelles – the fruit bat! Most dishes are served with either breadfruit or rice and eggplant is also much loved. Fruits grow in abundance in Seychelles including papaya, dragon fruit, jamalac, jackfruit, star fruit, bananas and mango and others as well. Ask for “Coeur de Boeuf” when you’re in Seychelles – it’s a beautiful fruit which looks like a beef heart but tastes like cream – you’ll never forget it!
